Sargassum conditions expected to fluctuate over the next 3 months

Sargassum conditions are expected to fluctuate over the next three months in the Eastern Caribbean.

This is according to the Sargassum Sub-Regional Outlook Bulletin for February 1 to May 1, 2025, published by the Sargassum Team at the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies, CERMES at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill.

According to its synopsis, sargassum continues to increase across the central Atlantic, however, cloud cover is affecting the effectiveness of long-term forecasting.

Its general outlook states mild to moderate influxes are expected across the region.

In the southern islands, which Trinidad and Tobago falls under, moderate influxes are expected in February followed by a decline through March and April.

The northern islands can expect mild influxes during February with more noticeable influxes during March, while the middle islands should look out for mild to moderate influxes, with a significant increase in late March.
