The Division of Culture in the Prime Minister’s Office is on a mission to move the Season of Emancipation celebrations beyond commemorating with a set of activities to a series of events connecting the past, present, and future.
That’s according to Minister with Responsibility for Culture in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight.
She says this year’s Emancipation celebrations will focus on a campaign to educate Barbadians about the importance of the season, which is engraved in the country’s history.
She was speaking during the 2025 Season of Emancipation media launch at the Rock Hall Freedom Village, St Thomas.
A number of events will take place this Emancipation season, starting from April 14, the anniversary of Bussa’s Rebellion, and ending on Jackie Opel Day, commemorated on August 27.
Minister Munro-Knight says the activities will be driven by community actions.
