Police confirmed that 13-year-old Shawnathon Chase, lost his life as a result of the shooting incident during a netball match at Silver Hill, Christ Church.

A family has been thrown into mourning after a shooting death at Silver Hill, Christ Church on Tuesday evening, during a netball game.
The Barbados Police Service is investigating the shooting which reports indicate resulted in a minor’s death.
They said in a release that the Police Operations Control received reports of gunshots “being fired at Silver Hill, Christ Church on Tuesday 25th March 2025 about 7:48 p.m. Police at Oistins Station responded to the report.
“Investigations revealed that a game of netball was being played on the hardcourt when two culprits appeared from behind the housing units and discharged a number of shots in the direction of the hardcourt.
“The victim who was watching the game was struck and sustained wounds to his abdomen and chest. He was transported in a private motorcar to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries whilst undergoing treatment.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information that may assist us to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1800-8477, Police Emergency at 211 or the Oistins Police Station at 418-2612 or 418-2608.”
