A reduction in United States aid will not stop small island developing states (SIDS) from achieving their sustainable development goals.
This declaration is coming from Chief Executive Officer and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy For All and Co-chair of UN Energy Damilola Ogunbiyi.
The US administration announced it is eliminating more than 90% of the United States Agency for International Development’s foreign aid contracts and 60 billion dollars in overall US assistance around the world.
Ms. Ogunbiyi says in the face of uncertainties countries in the developing world must focus on restructing and utilising internally generated revenue to help support themselves and their regions.
She was speaking during a press conference to discuss matters pertaining to the two-day SEforALL Global Forum which starts today in Barbados.
Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Business Senator Lisa Cummins says she’s confident the global south will rise to the occasion and find every opportunity to anchor its relationships around capacity building, research and development, innovation and financing.
