The Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology has honoured one of its own renaming the sports centre after the late Jeffrey Yarde.
Mr. Yarde, a math instructor, retired in 2000 and died in 2003.
His children Quincy and Rachael Yarde were present as they accepted an award on his behalf from Chairperson of the Board of Management of SJPI Mrs. Coreen Kennedy-Taitt.
Principal Ian Drakes says Yarde was one of many who set the hallmark at SJPI for those to follow.
Deputy Director of the National Sports Council Emerson Bascombe who spoke on behalf of Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Empowerment Charles Griffith, said Mr. Yarde was a cornerstone of the institution and an avid sports enthusiast.
The renaming of the complex is just one of many activities planned to commemorate the institution’s milestone as it celebrates 55 years of innovative excellence, under the theme ” Embracing Technology, Empowering the Future”.
