Barbados has heard that it will take social, political, and legislative action to improve access for people with disabilities.
Professor of Inclusive Education and Disability Studies in the Faculty of Humanities and Education at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Stacey Blackman, believes this combined approach will assist in tackling the difficult issues.
The suggestion was put forward during the question-and-answer segment after she had delivered the professorial lecture organised by the School for Graduate Studies and Research of the UWI Cave Hill.
It was titled: Democratisation and Equity: Transforming Caribbean School Ecologies through Education Inclusion.
Professor Blackman also says there is a need for more sensitisation of the public regarding the capacity of people with disabilities.
