Some workers of the Sanitation Service Authority are back on the job, after another short work stoppage this morning.
Confirmation of this from SSA’s Chairman, Senior Counsel Ramon Alleyne.
He says following a meeting yesterday involving the Authority and officials of the National Union of Public Workers, a way forward was crafted but this morning there was a work stoppage by some members of staff.
However, he says they remain committed to ensuring service is returned to the public.
Meanwhile, a meeting was convened today by the Acting Chief Labour Officer Wayne Sobers, with representatives of the National Union of Public Workers and the Sanitation Service Authority.
According to a statement from the Labour Office, this meeting revealed that no dispute has been declared by either side; and the work stoppage resulted from a misunderstanding of the basis on which the calculation of the performance incentive payment was made.
It was decided that the performance incentive payment will be paid on a quarterly basis, and both sides have committed to meet and revise the basis of the calculation of the performance incentive payment for the July to September quarter.
It is expected that work will resume as normal from tomorrow.
