From the first of next month, Barbadians 65 years and over will be the first to “Tap and Go” using their Trident ID cards to ride on Transport Board buses free of charge.

However, seniors who have not activated the chip and pin technology when they collected them, will now be required to pin their cards.

The initiative by the Transport Board to make travel on public transport hassle free for seniors, is the first initiative facilitated by the Ministry of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology and the Electoral and Boundaries Commission, in the roll-out of services and benefits of the Trident ID card.

The Transport Board, which is about to launch a cashless system for commuters who travel on its buses, will begin with people 65 years and older, who, once they have pinned their Trident ID cards, will merely tap on the card reader as they enter a bus — then take a seat.

To facilitate anyone who has not yet activated the chip and pin feature of the card, the EBC will allow the pinning of Trident ID cards daily at its office in Warrens Tower 2, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The EBC will also set up several pinning stations. They are as follows:

a) From September 25 to December 29, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday at the following Bus Terminals:

• Granville Williams Bus Terminal, Fairchild Street, Bridgetown
• Princess Alice Bus Terminal, Princess Alice Highway
• Speightstown Bus Terminal, Speightstown
• Weymouth Bus Terminal, Roebuck Street, St. Michael

b) From September 25 to October 27, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday at the following Post Offices:

• The General Post Office, Cheapside, Bridgetown, St. Michael
• Brittons Hill Post Office, Brittons Hill, St. Michael
• Eagle Hall Post Office, President Kennedy Drive, St. Michael
• Christ Church Post Office, Oistins, Christ Church
• Worthing Post Office, Worthing, Christ Church
• St. Andrew Post Office, Belleplaine, St. Andrew
• St. George Post Office, The Valley, St. George
• St. James Post Office, Police Station Complex, Holetown, St. James
• St. John Post Office, Four Roads, St. John
• St. Joseph Post Office, The Eric Holder Complex, St. Joseph

• St. Lucy Post Office, Benthams, St. Lucy
