Trade unions calling for paternity leave legislation to be implemented

Two trade unionists are calling for the implementation of legislation to standardise paternity leave across all sectors in Barbados.
General Secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados, Dennis DePeiza, and Assistant General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Wayne Walrond, say while they support the issue of paternity leave, there is currently no statute governing the leave entitlements.
Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance and Social Security Service, Kim Tudor, recently confirmed that the benefit is active and eligible fathers can apply. But DePeiza says there must be consistency in how this issue is treated.
Walrond also emphasised the need for paternity leave legislation, stating that it is a matter of justice and societal development.
