A leading Barbadian academic sees a role for universities to play in solving current problems countries are facing.
Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles says institutions are now being called upon to be activists in this 21st century.
He says UWI recognises this and has been playing its part.
Sir Hilary was at the time delivering a virtual address before a higher education sustainability initiative, Hesi Global Forum titled, ‘The Future of Higher Education for Sustainable Development’ at the UN in New York.
Sir Hilary says the sustainable development goals, SDGs present opportunities for universities to return to their highest quality of service to humanity.
