Barbados has benefited from a 700 thousand US dollar grant from CAF – the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The grant agreement was signed by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, along with the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Water Authority, Chris Mapp, and the Regional Manager for CAF, Dr. Stacy Richards-Kennedy.
Also in attendance were Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn, and Minister of Economic Affairs and Investment, Kay McConney.
Dr. Richards-Kennedy provided some insight, stating that the funds will go towards supporting the reduction of non-revenue water wastage and the strengthening of Barbados’ infrastructure for increased water security.
She noted that the bank has been working with Barbados over the years on enhancing water security.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley expressed thanks to CAF Bank for its continued support, given the impact of the climate crisis on water.
She stated that Barbados has a serious issue with respect to groundwater.
