Wesley Hall Junior School closes early

June 17, 2024

Classes at the Wesley Hall Junior School have ended early after at least 22 teachers reported sick.

This is according to a statement from the Ministry Of Education, Technological And Vocational Training.

It said when contacted, President of the Barbados Union of Teachers, Rudy Lovell said he was unaware of any grievances among members at the school.

However, BUT is probing reports that several teachers reported sick for work this morning causing classes there to be cancelled.

This confirmation is from BUT President Rudy Lovell.

Mr. Lovell tells CBC News he needs to get more details before he can give an official comment on the matter.

The ministry said it attempted to secure substitute teachers from the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College but was unsuccessful as classes have already been suspended for the semester.

By 10:25 this morning only 5 of 32 teachers had reported to work which was deemed insufficient to effectively manage the class loads of the students.

Students were allowed to have their school meals before parents and guardians were asked to collect their children and wards at 12:00 noon.

The Ministry of Education says it will provide an update on the status of classes in due course.
