Alarming. That is how Chief Executive Officer of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Greta Yearwood, has described statistics regarding strokes in Barbados.
Barbados National Registry statistics show 700 strokes were recorded in 2022.
Ms. Yearwood says the Foundation, through the support of its partners, including the Ministry of Health and Wellness, has helped lay the groundwork for a new generation of what she termed “heart smart Barbadians”.
Ms. Yearwood’s remarks came during the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s 40th anniversary media conference.
Though the anniversary was marked on April 18th, Ms. Yearwood says they intend to celebrate throughout the year.
While reflecting on the years, she says its programmes and initiatives have shaped lives and strengthened communities.
