A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Barbados.
Excessive rainfall from tonight, Tuesday, December 2, could generate flooding across low-lying areas in Barbados. Therefore, the Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a Flash Flood Watch. These conditions are predicted to peak during the day on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, with some improvement by Thursday night, December 4, 2025.
There is the medium possibility of flooding which may result in:
-Some soil erosion on bared or scarred land surfaces.
-Water settlements on roads and fields. Increases water levels of existing water bodies (e.g. ponds etc.).
-Some delays on traffic routes in the area.
-Debris such as small rocks, mud and tree foliage could end up on roads and property.
Barbados Meteorological Services suggests that the public should travel with full protective rain-gear, such as full-body raincoat, and suitable weather boots or shoes. They further advised that people start their travels well in advance to allow for delays and stay off roads if possible. People are encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates.
A broad low-level trough has been traversing the region over the past few days; convergence behind the axis of this feature has generated some instability this morning which is expected to continue through the afternoon. By tonight the mid to upper-level environment is expected to become more favourable, thus enhancing the activity associated with this feature. Mostly cloudy skies with light to heavy showers, and the low possibility of some thunderstorms. Rainfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the next 24 hours.
A Flash Flood Watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall could result in the possibility of rapid flooding (generally within two hours). Flash Flood Watches could be issued up to 48 hours in advance. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.
This Flash Flood Watch or Warning was issued at noon today, Tuesday, December 2, and will be updated/terminated at 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2025, or sooner if conditions warrant.
