As unstable conditions continue to affect the region, excessive rainfall is generating flooding across low-lying areas of Barbados. The Met Office has therefore issued a Flash Flood Warning for northern sections of Barbados.
The low-level instability in conjunction with a supportive mid to upper level flow, will continue affecting the island today and through the early part of this week. During the remainder of the afternoon, frequent intermittent moderate to intense showers, rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast. Rainfall accumulations indicates 3 inches have already been recorded, with an additional inch expected.
Take note of the following possible impacts:
-There is the high possibility of severe flooding, which will result in runoff from higher elevations
-Soil erosion/land slippage on exposed or scarred land surfaces. Water settlements on roads and fields
-Adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds etc.)
-Large objects or debris from higher elevations becoming embedded within fast-moving water flows
-Flooding at the foot of hillsides and
coastal roads.
The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages, along with the local media networks for further updates.
A flash-flood warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall is occurring or imminent (generally within 2 hours).
Flash flood warnings could be issued up to 6 hours in advance. This Flash Flood Warning was issued at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 16, 2025.
