The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Flash-Flood Warning and Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Barbados.

The Flash-Flood Warning was issued as rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area.
Maximum Rainfall Accumulations of 40.0 to 75.0 mm in heavy to intense showers
Excessive rainfall this afternoon, Sunday, October 5, 2025, is expected to generate flooding across low-lying areas in central and eastern districts and surrounding areas.

Take note of the following possible impacts:
-Runoff from higher elevations
-Soil erosion/land slippage on exposed or scarred land surfaces
-Water settlements on roads and fields.

Meanwhile, lightning activity at or near your location could result in power outages if lightning strikes power utility infrastructure. The Met Office also reminded people that lightning strikes can be life-threatening. The Thunderstorm Watch was therefore issued as there are spatial distributions of thunderstorms affecting or forecast to affect between 25 and 50 per cent of the land area within 48 hours.

The public is encouraged to the Department of Emergency Management, BMS and GIS websites and their respective social media pages, along with the local media networks for further updates.

This update was issued at 12:30 p.m. today, Sunday, October 5, 2025, and will be terminated at 6 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant.
