Flooding remains possible as a Tropical Wave continues to affect Barbados. As a result, the Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a Flood Watch.
The Tropical Wave affecting the island may result in cloudy skies and possible thunderstorms, as well as rainfall accumulations of one to two inches in moderate to heavy showers across Barbados.
Take note of the following possible moderate to significant impacts:
-Runoff from higher elevations -Soil erosion on exposed or scarred land surfaces -Water settlements on roads and fields at the foot of hills and coastal roads -Adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds etc.) -Objects or debris from higher elevations become embedded within fast-moving water flows -Delays on traffic routes with some roads becoming impassable -Residents and visitors should also be aware that this alert level could elevate to red.
The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates.
A Flood Watch is issued when the conditions are favourable for flooding within the next 48 hours. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but is possible. This alert was issued at 6:00 a.m. today, November 8, 2024, and will be updated/terminated at noon or sooner if conditions warrant. It may be upgraded to a Warning if necessary.
