A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for Barbados for above normal swell heights.
This is expected as above normal sea swells are forecast for the weekend and into next week as a tropical wave affects the island from Sunday, October 19, 2025.
A tropical wave will be affecting Barbados from Sunday morning, October 19, 2025, into Monday, October 20, 2025. During this time, an increase in wind speeds will prompt an increase in swell heights across the marine area, and as such, a small craft advisory is in effect. Following the passage of the tropical wave, a northerly component in the sea swells will maintain choppy sea conditions across the western coastlines of Barbados throughout next week.
Take note of the following possible impacts:
- -Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels
- -Some beach erosion is inevitable with most or all beaches submerged, particularly below the cliffs and specifically at times of high tide
- -Possible tumbling or rolling of unsecured objects
- -Possible loss of life or injury.
Marine users are encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further information on what to do. Follow the advice of the Barbados Fisheries Division, NCC officials and the relevant authorities.
A Small Craft Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 – 3.0 metres (8 – 10 feet) and/or reduced visibility (less than 10 km but greater than 5 km) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 48 hours.
This Small Craft advisory was issued at noon today, Friday, October 17, 2025, and will be updated as conditions warrant.
