Kenyan Alex Ekesa made it a beaver-trick of wins in the Farley Hill Run Barbados Marathon, after winning today’s 2024 edition at Barclays Park on East Coast Road, St. Andrew.
Ekesa was over 16 minutes faster than his nearest competitor, as he came home in two hours, 29 minutes, two seconds. Trinidad and Tobago took the silver and bronze positions, with Collin Pereira second in two hours, 45 minutes, 27 seconds, and Christopher Mitchell in third after two hours, 56 minutes, nine seconds.
The first Barbados competitor was Shamel Maynard who was sixth in three hours, 21 minutes, 17 seconds. The first Bajan female runner was Francesca Johnson who was 47th overall and 10th among women in five hours, 15 minutes, 46 seconds. The first woman home was Fanja Felix of France in three hours, 11 minutes, 32 seconds. She was fourth overall.
Trinidad had a good Run Barbados weekend, as in addition to the one-two in the marathon, Nicholas Romany repeated as the Casuarina 10K Run on Saturday evening. In a sprint to the finish, he pipped marathon winner Ekesa of Kenya by two seconds – Romany getting home in 32 minutes, 16 seconds and Ekesa in 32 minutes, 18 seconds. Trinidad’s Tafari Waldron was third in 32 minutes and 24 seconds.
The First Bajan was Olympian Matthew Wright, who placed fourth in 33 minutes, 32 seconds, while the first Bajan woman was Rebecca Lezama, who was 27th overall and third among the women in 47 minutes, 23 seconds. The first woman overall was again Fanja Felix of France in 38 minutes, 53 seconds to be 9th overall.
