Barbados’ best draughts players have all missed out on either taking the women’s world title or qualifying to play for the men’s crown.
Top local female player, Wynnell Neverson, dropped from second to third by the end of the World Go-As-You-Please Championship in Italy today.
Neverson, who led the World Championship for the first four rounds, finished on 17 points, as Anastasila Glushko of Ukraine became the new women’s queen with 21 points.
The now former world champion, Nadiya Chyzheska, also of Ukraine, was second on 18.
Meanwhile, a last-day surge by Jack Francis and a collapse by Ronald “Suki” King didn’t allow either of them to earn the right to challenge for the men’s title.
Francis jumped from fourth to third on 21 points, while King dropped from second to fourth on 20.
However, it was Alex Moiseyev of the United States who took the qualifier with 22 points, thus earning the right to challenge Italy’s Matteo Bernini for the title.
