Barbados’ men’s football team ended their FIFA CONCACAF World Cup qualifying campaign without a win, following a 2-1 loss to St. Lucia last night in Aruba.
The Tridents struck first, just as they had in recent games, when Devonte Richards found the back of the net in the 12th minute. Left unmarked in the box as six St. Lucian defenders ball-watched, Richards calmly slotted his shot into the far corner past a diving goalkeeper who anticipated it going near post.
But St. Lucia equalised before the break, with Canniggia Elva converting a penalty in the 42nd minute. Elva then secured the win with his second goal in the 90th minute.
St. Lucia finished third in Group ‘C’ on four points, while Barbados ended at the bottom with one point from a draw and three losses. Curaçao topped the group, winning all four matches to finish with 12 points.
