A number of positions on the Board of the Barbados Olympic Association will be up for election on September 9 at the Association’s Annual General Assembly at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
While most positions remain unchanged, a competitive race has emerged for the two available director seats.
Three candidates, including one incumbent and two challengers, are contesting the positions.
Incumbent Obadele Thompson, who was elected to the board in 2023, is seeking re-election.
The other nominees are Ryan Brathwaite and Dominic Hill.
Brathwaite, a newcomer, is president of the Paralympic Association of Barbados.
Hill is a former national hockey player who represented Barbados at various competitions. This will be his second time contesting a board election.
BOA Vice-President Cameron Burke, who has served as a director since 1996, will return to his post unopposed.
Also returning unopposed is Erskine Simmons, the Association’s Secretary General since 1996.
Chartered accountant Orson Simpson is also running unopposed. He has managed the BOA’s financial portfolios since 2017 and will retain his position as treasurer.
The Annual General Assembly is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on September 9.
