Top Barbados Sprinter Tristan Evelyn, didn’t advance to tomorrow’s women’s 100 metres semifinals, after bowing out in today’s heat one at the Paris Olympics.
Evelyn’s season’s best of 11.03 seconds would have allowed her to fight another day, but she only managed to place 6th in 11.55 seconds.
The winner of Evelyn’s heat was Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States – the fastest woman this year – clocking 10.94 seconds
Meanwhile, Ivorian Marie Ta Lou-Smith clocked the fastest qualifying time of the heats, winning heat eight in an impressive 10.87 seconds.
She was splits ahead of four-time Olympian Shelly-ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, who finished in 10.92.
St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred also sent a message with her winning time of 10.95 in heat two.
Other notable qualifiers for the semis include Tia Clayton of Jamaica in 11 seconds flat; Shashalee Forbes of Jamaica at 11.19; and Leah Bertrand of Trinidad and Tobago at 11.27.
The women’s semis are tomorrow at 1:50 p.m., while the final will be 90 minutes later at 3:20 p.m. all live on CBC TV8.
