It was a festive atmosphere at Wyndham Grand Barbados, Sam Lord’s Castle today for the opening ceremony of the prestigious FEMUNDO World Dominoes Championships.
The tournament runs until Saturday and features hundreds of players from across the Caribbean, the Americas, and further afield.
The championships will not only highlight the unique style of Caribbean dominoes but also introduce participants to the Latin American variations of the game.
Additionally, 60,000 US dollars will be up for grabs, including a grand individual prize of 10,000 US dollars.
During the ceremony, President of the Bajan Travellers, Suzette Hinds, paid tribute to the late FEMUNDO 2nd Vice President, Inspector Rodney Inniss.
Director of the National Sports Council, Neil Murrell, said there will be a lot of learning over the next few days with the various styles of dominoes.
Manager of Sports at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., Kamal Springer, noted that the World Championships are a significant boost for Barbados’ sports tourism.
