IPL 2025 has been suspended with immediate effect for one week.
The decision was made this afternoon in the wake of the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
The teams have already started disbanding, with players and support staff understood to be taking the next available flights out of and within India, with help from their respective franchises and players’ associations in the case of the overseas contingent.
Players from the West Indies have reportedly remained in India for the week.
These include Sherfane Rutherford of Gujarat Titans; Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Rovman Powell of Kolkata Knight Riders; Nicholas Pooran and Shamar Joseph of Lucknow Super Giants; Shimron Hetmyer of Rajasthan Royals; and Romario Shepherd of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
There are 16 remaining matches in the IPL, which was originally due to run until May 25.
If the IPL can’t resume soon, with India’s five-test series in England starting on June 20, the next possible window might only be in September.
Pakistani authorities say 31 people have been killed and 57 injured by Indian air strikes in the country since Wednesday morning, a claim which Islamabad denied.
Meanwhile, 26 civilians were killed in Indian-administered Kashmir last month, and India has accused Pakistan of supporting militants behind the attack, an allegation the neighbouring country has rejected.
