West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been nominated for the ICC’s prestigious Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.
Joseph, along with England’s Gus Atkinson, Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka and Pakistan’s Saim Syub, are shortlisted for the 2024 award.
The 25-year-old Joseph took 29 wickets in eight tests and burst onto the scene in January when he took seven wickets in the second test at the Gabba with an injured toe, to bowl West Indies to their first test victory in Australia in 27 years.
Playing his first test series, Joseph produced an incredible performance, claiming 13 wickets from two tests, including two five-wicket hauls, becoming the first West Indian in 17 years to take a five-wicket haul on test debut.
Later in the year, Joseph was clinical in the home series against Bangladesh and South Africa, finishing with 12 wickets from three outings.
