Barbadian multi-sport junior athlete Luke McIntyre has added another major international title to his résumé, with victory Saturday in the junior men’s race at the 2026 Americas Triathlon Junior Cup in Lima, Peru.
McIntyre crossed the finish line in 58 minutes and 26 seconds to top a competitive field of 18 athletes over the sprint-distance course, which included a 750-metre swim, an 18.7-kilometre bike ride and a five-kilometre run.
He shared the fastest swim split of the day in 10 minutes and 55 seconds, followed by a 31-minute, 40-second bike leg. He then produced the fastest run of the race, clocking 14 minutes and 27 seconds over five kilometres to pull away from the field and seal the title.
Yesterday’s victory takes McIntyre’s career record to five wins and seven podium finishes from 12 starts, according to World Triathlon’s ranking database.
It is also his second podium finish during his South American campaign, following a third-place finish in the junior men’s race at the Americas Triathlon Championships in Chile in July.
McIntyre has spent the past several weeks training in South America as one of six athletes selected from across the continent for the Americas Triathlon Development Committee’s Team Americas Camp.
He will go on to compete in the World Triathlon Development Cup.
