The Nepal team looks set to be without their champion leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Nepal announced today that the US Embassy has denied the controversial star a visa, and there’s a “slim or no chance” he will play in the T20 World Cup.

The competition bowls off on Saturday with Nepal’s first game on June 4 in Dallas.

Nepal wanted to select spin bowler Lamichhane, who had an eight-year sentence for rape quashed on appeal this month.

The 23-year-old was once the poster boy for cricket in Nepal, but was not included in the original squad because of the conviction for raping a young woman in 2022.

Any alteration to Nepal’s squad will now require approval from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.

The T20 World Cup will be broadcast live on MCTV’s ESPN channels and also on radio 94.7FM.
