Windies vice-captain Jomel Warrican says the team is ready to put the embarrassment of being bowled out for 27 in their last Test innings behind them and start rebuilding their reputation.
Warrican was speaking today ahead of Thursday’s opening day of the first Test against hosts India at Ahmedabad.
The deputy skipper says they need to learn from the experience against Australia to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
He adds that he and his teammates have been working hard in practice to prepare for the tough Indian conditions.
Meanwhile, Alzarri Joseph has been ruled out of the Test series against India due to a lower-back injury. Joseph complained of discomfort, and scans revealed “a degeneration of the previously resolved lower-back injury.”
According to a CWI release yesterday, Jason Holder declined to be Joseph’s replacement, citing a planned medical procedure.
West Indies have now called up left-arm seamer Jediah Blades, 23, to replace Joseph. Blades, who is already in the UAE, will join the Test squad now that the three-match T20 series ended earlier today.
Joseph’s absence leaves West Indies’ pace attack severely depleted. Last week, Shamar Joseph was ruled out with an injury and replaced by uncapped seam-bowling all-rounder Johann Layne.
Of their current seam-bowling options, Jayden Seales is the only one to have played more than ten Tests.
