Barbados pulled off hard fought victory over hosts Jamaica yesterday, in their Davis Cup World Group II playoff first round tie in Kingston.
With the contest level at 2-all Barbadian Kaipo Marshall registered a much-needed 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 win over Rowland Phillips, that keeps Barbados in World Group II.
The rain delayed the inventible after Marshall went up 4-love in the decisive third set and once play resumed he polished off the contest converting two of three break point opportunities.
Coming into the final day with the tie level at 1- all after the singles matches, the pair of Haydyn Lewis and Darian King won the doubles match-up 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 over Blaise Bicknell and Phillips.
The Bajans then missed the chance to win the tie when King lost to Bicknell 6-1, 6-0 in the first reverse singles match.
That left the pressure on Kaipo Marshall to conquer Phillips and he won, two sets to one in two hours and 10 minutes of action.
