West Indies have taken first dibs in their women’s One Day International series with South Africa, winning the first match by four wickets at the 3Ws Oval last evening.
In a rain-affected encounter, the Windies women held their opponents to 232 for nine from their 50 overs after sending them in to take first knock.
Tazmin Brits top scored with 57, while Aaliyah Alleyne took 2 for 35.
In reply, the Windies women needed a further 105 runs when rain stopped play, with the hosts on 128 for four after 25.3 overs.
Their innings was then reduced to 34 overs, meaning they needed 52 runs from 50 balls… and they eventually got home on 180 for six off 32 overs to win by four wickets via the DLS method.
Qiana Joseph led with 60, captain Hayley Matthews assisted with 40 and Stafanie Taylor was left not out on 30.
