The Embassy of Japan in Barbados has facilitated the visit of two karate instructors to the island.
The pair will work with local karate-ka under the guidance of the International Shotokan Karate Federation of Barbados.
Their visit includes training sessions at St. Winifred’s School and a demonstration at Haymans Market, St. Peter.
First Secretary of the Embassy, Shita Umiura, said they are pleased to share part of their culture and build lasting partnerships. He noted the instructors are from Okinawa, a Japanese island in the East China Sea with similarities to Barbados.
Chief Instructor of ISKF Barbados, Peter Warren, said the visit is timely and contributes to the development of the sport locally.
He added that ISKF Barbados aims to build on last year’s World Tournament in the United Kingdom.
