Barbados has turned to China to purchase 150 emergency houses as it continues efforts to repair and rebuild homes destroyed by the recent freak storm and Hurricane Elsa.
Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Dr. William Duguid says the houses are prefabricated and use new technology called light gauge steel.
Dr. Duguid provided further insight during Debate on a supplementary of over 50 million dollars for the Ministry of Housing.
Minister Duguid says extensive work has been undertaken as Government addresses housing issues following the passage of the freak storm and Hurricane Elsa.
There were some 2106 incident reports regarding houses.
Progress has been made with technical assessments parish by parish.
