Winter tourist season success also hinges on vaccination level

November 11th, 2021

While prospects for tourism in the coming months are looking promising on paper, the success of the winter tourist season will also hinge on the level of COVID-19 vaccinations on the island.

Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. Roseanne Myers has been speaking to the Morning Report and putting the issue into perspective.

According to her, there’s growing competition across the globe for market share in the industry, and having more tourism workers vaccinated will put Barbados in a better position to capitalize on the high demand for leisure travel.

The BTMI Chairman’s comments come as the national vaccination rate closes in on the 50% mark, and around 60% for the eligible population.

Ms. Myers is of the strong view vaccination and regular testing is the only way to bolster Barbados’ tourism brand as it emerges from the coronavirus pandemic.
