Dust haze, small-craft advisories issued for Barbados

May 16th, 2022

Dust-haze and small-craft advisories are in effect for Barbados.

The dust-haze advisory is issued when dust haze is forecasted to reduce visibility to between 5 to 10 km within 36 hours. A small-craft advisory is issued in this case when reduced visibility (less than 10 km but greater than 5 km) are forecast to affect the marine area within the next 48 hours.

A plume of moderate Saharan dust haze has blanketed Barbados this morning, Monday 16th May 2022. Persons with respiratory issues or allergies are advised to travel with, or have close at hand, all prescribed relevant medications in case
of an emergency.

Marine users should stay close to shore, particularly if GPS is not in use on the vessel.

This alert message is valid from noon today, Monday 16th May 2022 and will be updated at noon on Tuesday 17th May 2022 or sooner if conditions warrant.
