Findings of 2020 BARDIN Report released

May 31st, 2022

Marijuana, alcohol and cocaine continue to be the drugs of choice for individuals with substance abuse disorders in Barbados.

That’s according to Research Assistant with the National Council on Substance Abuse, Laura Foster.

In her presentation of the key findings of the 2020 Barbados Drug Information Network or BARDIN Report, Ms. Foster stated that substance abuse amongst males under the age of 40 is a consistent pattern.

She also noted there has been slow diversification of the drug situation, with increased use of drugs like ecstasy and ketamine.

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs and Information Wilfred Abrahams believes despite changes made to marijuana legislation, greater focus needs to be placed on educating young people on marijuana use and those workers in high stress jobs who unexpectedly turn to drugs.
