Herd immunity – this is what Barbados, the region and the rest of the world was hoping for in relation to COVID-19.
It was the light at the end of the tunnel which could have signalled the beginning of the end of the pandemic.
However, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. The Most Honourable Kenneth George says this concept of herd immunity is no longer relevant in this current COVID environment.
He’s been speaking exclusively to CBC News.
The CMO is also warning Barbadians who’ve refused to get COVID-19 boosters.
Dr. George says the reality is, these individuals are no longer adequately protected against new variants of the viral illness.
