Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley, is continuing to drum up support for the island’s food security. This time she is looking to Brazil.
Prime Minister Mottley along with Guyana’s President, Dr Irfaan Ali and a small delegation, held talks with the Governor of the Brazilian state of Roraima, Antonio Denarium. They flew from Trinidad and Tobago where they attended the second Agri-Investment Forum and Expo.
The Brazilian state recently expressed an interest in being integrated into CARICOM’s food security vision. Ms. Mottley told the Governor of Roraima, that Guyana and Caribbean countries can work on the production and processing of food products, so they can use the free trade agreements Barbados has with more than 40 countries. She also believes Roraima and Barbados can jointly process food and export them.
Prime Minister Mottley revealed she intends to work with Guyana to have Roraima become a guest member of CARICOM.
Among the other topics discussed – are tax incentives for aviation fuel and establishing a minimum weekly frequency for international flights departing from São Paulo to Barbados. Prime Minister Mottley and her team also toured a soybean processing facility along with a state-of-the-art abattoir.
