3 more High Court Judges to be appointed

October 29th, 2022

Attorney General Dale Marshall believes the backlog of people awaiting trial for murder could be cleared over the next two years.

Mr. Marshall made the point during yesterday’s Debate on changes to the Firearm Bill, in the Lower House.

He said as of last month, there were 96 murder cases awaiting trial, 8 for manslaughter and 292 involving firearms.

According to the Attorney General, efforts to conclude these matters will be bolstered as Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has agreed to the appointment of three more High Court Judges for the criminal division, bringing the total to eight.
