The National Conservation Commission (NCC) is reminding the public it is an offence to handle or tamper with nesting sea turtles or their nests.
It says under Section 46 of the Fisheries Act, no one shall fish for, or ensnare any turtle, and no one shall disturb or endanger any turtle nest or remove from a nest any turtle eggs.
Anyone who contravenes these regulations is guilty of an offence, and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of up to $50,000 or to imprisonment for a term of two years or both.
