Agriculture Minister Indar Weir is appealing to Barbadians to desist from smuggling plant matter, pets, meats and seeds into the country.
This as he says the action puts crops and livelihoods at risk of being wiped out by new pests or diseases.
Speaking from the floor of the Lower House this morning, as he led off debate on the Plant Protection Bill, he encouraged people to go through the correct channels.
The Minister told the chamber the amendments to the legislation will make it easier for Barbados to trade with other countries among other things.
