Barbados has warned 100 million people will be pushed into poverty as a result of climatic loss and damage.
Special Envoy on the Climate to the Prime Minister, Professor Avinash Persaud, while issuing the stark warning, told a global forum in India a new support mechanism for natural disaster-hit countries
He told the G20 Sherpas Meeting that additional revenue streams are needed and that the fossil fuel industry has to make its contribution to loss and damage.
Over 120 delegates from G20 members, invitee countries, and various international and regional organisations took part in the meeting.
Professor Persaud’s presentation focused on measures that could reshape the international financial system.
