Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kerrie Symmonds has signalled the country’s commitment to establishing a National Human Rights Institution.
While this goal is yet to be realised, he told the 43rd Universal Periodic Review for Barbados at the Human Rights Council that it remains a high priority for Barbados.
Mr. Symmonds says Barbados is willing to work with countries who have already set up such institutions.
During the review, he nominated former Principal of the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Professor the Most Honorable Eudine Barriteau, as the island’s candidate for a seat on the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
