A senior Pan American Health official says the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in people turning to alcohol to cope with the many stresses.
Unit Chief of the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Unit at PAHO, Dr. Renato Oliveira says alcohol consumption is becoming a part of family and work life.
Dr. Oliveira was among the panel for a webinar titled ‘Alcohol and COVID-19 in the Americas: What’s Happened and How Do We Move Forward?’.
Dr. Oliveira says the health, social and economic impact of the harmful use of alcohol will have long, lasting implications if no action is taken.
