Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey has told a High-Level Meeting in Chile the onset of COVID-19 did not create problems social Ministries across the Americas are addressing but rather exposed them.
He says these ministries must now act to ensure they are fit for purpose even as they face budget cuts.
Mr. Humphrey was a panellist for a Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean ongoing in Chile.
He notes the challenges are similar across the region, noting hurdles countries like Brazil and Costa Rica are tackling, and Barbados as well is addressing.
