Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) member countries, including several Caribbean states, have been recording declines in COVID-19 infections and deaths.

However, despite the progress, PAHO Assistant Director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa has warned against becoming complacent or discontinuing public health measures.

During yesterday’s weekly COVID-19 media briefing, Dr. Barbosa noted for an 8th consecutive week overall cases have declined across the region

Dr. Barbosa further says the trend of declining or stable cases and deaths is present in a significant portion of the Caribbean.

He points out, however, that Barbados continues to report its highest number of COVID-related infections and deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Dr. Barbosa reminded member countries it remains critical for all to stay the course until everyone is vaccinated and protected from the viral illness.
