Countdown on to Independence, transition to Republic

In just under two weeks, Barbados will celebrate its 55th anniversary of Independence, on November 30th.

The day will be doubly meaningful as it will mark the island’s transition to a Republic.

Governor General Dame Sandra Mason will officially take up the position of the country’s first President on the day, which will also see deserving Barbadians awarded in the 2021 National Independence/Republic Honours.

Britain’s Prince Charles is expected to be the Guest of Honour at the Republic Celebrations events.

As preparations rev up across the country, some buildings and structures are already decked out in displays of national pride.
