Disabled facing sexual, reproductive health stigma

A Barbadian disability advocate says there’s still stigma and discrimination attached regarding the sexual and reproductive health of persons with disabilities.

President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled, Kerryann Ifill, who is participating in the 16th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Conference of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, told a side event at the UN the Caribbean still holds several conservative notions regarding the disabled.

She says in the region, too many women and girls with disabilities are still being denied access to information about their bodies and their rights.

Ms. Ifill says there are too many disabled women who believe they do not have the right to bear children.
