Special needs schools boost

April 6, 2023

More children with special needs are expected to find places in primary schools come September 2023, as the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training increases the number of schools offering special education programmes.

Deputy Chief Education Officer, Joy Adamson has announced this.

Ms. Adamson was speaking during the official launch of Disability Awareness Day (DAD) inclusive school competition, being run by the Barbados Council for the Disabled.

During the DAD launch, five inclusive schools and their ambassadors were given monetary donations and other forms of recognition.

The schools are Workmans and St. Matthew’s Primary Schools, and Grantley Adams Memorial, Princess Margaret and Deighton Griffith Secondary Schools.

Operations Manager of the Barbados Council for the Disabled, Roseanna Tudor, says the competition is intended to raise awareness among over 61, 000 students from pre-primary to tertiary levels.
