The calypso fraternity in Trinidad and Tobago, and by extension Barbados, is mourning the loss of Singing Francine.
A release from the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation says she passed away early this morning.
Singing Francine, real name Francine Edwards, was born in Barbados, but lived most of her life in Trinidad.
She is known for numerous Christmas songs including ‘Parang Parang’ and ‘Hooray, Hurrah’ and her hard hitting social commentaries.
Francine was a staple at calypso tents both in Trinidad and Barbados.
She was crowned Calypso Queen in T&T in 1973, 1981 and 1983.
